France finally relaxed, says Fofana

Wesley Fofana believes his second-half try against Scotland gave rise to a glimpse of France's potential after les Bleus finished their RBS 6 Nations campaign on a high.
Unable to win by more than 16 points, France still finished bottom of the table but after trailing 6-0 at half-time, Fofana and co cranked up the pressure in the second half to seal a 23-16 victory.

After three Frederic Michalak penalties, Fofana finished off his second try of the competition after good work from the impressive Mathieu Bastareaud.

Bastareaud was again a key contributor for the second try, Maxime Machenaud popping the ball inside for Maxime Medard to coast through under the posts.

It was the first time in Championship that the French were playing with their tails up, after defeats to Italy, Wales and England, and a 13-13 draw with Ireland had drained much of their confidence.

But Fofana believes their second-half showing against the Scots is demonstrative of what les Bleus are capable of.

“In the first half we dominated possession but we couldn't get on the scoreboard. The first try allowed us to relax,” said Fofana.

“We had a first half where we didn't take any chances. In the second we were able to do what we wanted. It was better. We're pleased with the win.”
