Findlay seeks further improvements for Scotland Women
20 February 2013, 12:10 pm
By Sportsbeat
Scotland Women's head coach Karen Findlay admits her side are under no illusions as to the size of the task ahead as they welcome Ireland to Lasswade on Saturday.
After two wins from two – including their historic win over England last time out – Ireland top the RBS 6 Nations table while Scotland’s campaign has been in direct contrast.

Defeats to England and Italy have seen Scotland yet to score a point, although, for Findlay, there were signs for encouragement in the 8-0 defeat to Italy in difficult conditions.

“Ireland had a fantastic win at home against England and undoubtedly, given the rugby they have played, are deserving of sitting top of the table. They've been building season on season to achieve that kind of result, so fair play to them,” she said.

“We are in no doubt we have another huge challenge this weekend so it will be nice to revisit Lasswade with such a great home crowd support.

“That said, the response by our team in the Italy match was a big step in the right direction and we were unlucky, given the territory and pressure, not to have come away with a result. But pressure has to be finished off. So we will start from that basis and build.”

Saturday’s clash will mark the 20th anniversary of Scotland Women’s first ever match and while a host of old faces will be in attendance in Lasswade, there will be a few new ones too.

Jade Konkel made her debut against Italy and continues in the back row against Italy while Kelly Shields could also win her first cap from the bench.

"Some new faces from the Italy match, such as Jade Konkel, made a good debut,” added Findlay.

“So we're again looking to try a new face - Kelly Shields in the back row – and continue to increase the likes of scrum-half Sarah Law's involvement, again a good addition to the squad.

“It's now about building as we go forward and increase the experience within.”
