Against the Pacific Islanders, Harley made an immediate impact, scoring the decisive try in a 17-16 victory with just a minute left on the clock.
Scotland will have their work cut out at Murrayfield this weekend with Italy buoyant after their victory over France last Sunday, and Harley is determined to have his say on proceedings.
“Making my debut against Samoa was fantastic and I managed to get myself a try as well which was an unbelievable experience and hopefully I can replicate that this Saturday,” he said.
“I think we every Italian side you have the huge physical challenge, they come with huge runners and a great pack and look to scrummage and look to maul.
“I think what you saw with them winning over France, they’ve added a bit to their game so if your defence isn’t perfect they can cut you open.
“I’m absolutely delighted, as a young kid playing rugby it’s your dream to walk out at Murrayfield and represent your country and I feel that’s what’s my career has been building towards since I was signed.
“I’m a little bit nervous of it because I know it’s going to be a step up but I’m really excited about testing myself in international rugby and the challenge that brings and trying to come through and perform in Murrayfield in front of a packed stadium.”
Interim head coach Johnson, who has made one further change with Ross Ford returning at hooker in the place of Dougie Hall, insists Harley deserves his chance.
“I had the pleasure of working with Robert on our tour last summer,” said Johnson.
“He’s big and aggressive and he’s been knocking on the door for selection for a wee while. He deserves this chance as a reward for his club form.”
