In truth they would have needed a huge points swing to have claimed the title and the defeat saw them finish fourth overall.
Head coach Philippe Saint-Andre branded the defeat "very cruel" and while France missed out on their first RBS 6 Nations title since 2010, Lagisquet believes they must be careful in how they coax the best out of the present crop of players.
"The players of this generation are very sensitive to criticism," said Lagisquet in a column for L'Equipe.
"They read all the stuff on social media and that touches them.
"Individual issues are just as important as they were during my time.
"They can very quickly start to doubt themselves which is a concern."
