Trinh-Duc demands Montpellier improvement

French international fly-half François Trinh-Duc admits that Montpellier are finding it as difficult as ever to find their best form in the early weeks of the season having lost two of their opening four games.
Trinh-Duc, who started three of France’s matches in last year’s RBS 6 Nations, and his teammates lost their second straight away game on Saturday with a 27-8 reverse against Biarritz.

The challenge doesn’t get any easier this weekend with a home clash against Toulon and Trinh-Duc is expecting a tough encounter.

He said: “Our first two away games were difficult. But now we need to concentrate on Toulon.

“They are a very good team. Everyone wants to play well, but we aren’t in our best form at the start of each season.

“We need to stay strong and keep trying to play expansively. The intentions and spirit are there but it’s not quite working for us.

“The assessment [of the Biarritz game] is tough to take. There are things we can take from it but not many.

“We need to use it and grow from that game. It’s frustrating, the team tries to spread the ball, to score tries but it’s not happening at the moment.

“There was a good Biarritz defence opposite us though. We kept fighting until the end and did stop them picking up a bonus point. The championship can come down to a single point so that was important.”
