Johnson hails form of Welshman Jones

World Cup winner Martin Johnson insists Alun Wyn Jones' performances for Wales at the backend of the RBS 6 Nations has elevated him into pole position to lead the Lions this summer.
Jones, who has been capped 70 times for Wales, was the standout performer in the front five during England and Wales’ Championship decider at the Millennium Stadium last weekend.

Johnson knows a thing or two about leading the Lions, having skippered the tourists in South Africa in 1997 and Australia in 2001.

And after seeing Jones return to his best form for Wales last weekend after a spell on the sidelines – Johnson is backing the Osprey for the top job.

“He has played a lot of games, he has done it and he has been out there before with the Lions in 2009, so I think he's in the frame," he said.

“I hear a lot of good things about him."
