Andy Farrell
Defence coach Andy Farrell backs England to cope with their lack of Grand Slam experience
Farrell braced for 'ultimate test'

England defence coach Andy Farrell insists Wales' superior RBS 6 Nations Grand Slam experience will count for nothing this weekend at the Millennium Stadium.
Stuart Lancaster’s England, who have won their opening four fixtures in the championship against Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy, are aiming to win their first Grand Slam in a decade.

Comparatively, Wales are packed with slam experience – props Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones played in the 2005 and 2008 slam deciders, while scrum-half Mike Phillips and locks Alun Wyn Jones and Ian Evans featured in the last two.

After a sluggish start against Ireland - they lost their opening game in Cardiff - Rob Howley’s men have won their last three RBS 6 Nations fixtures and if they can beat England by seven at the weekend they will retain their title from 2012.

"When we have had a challenge thrown at us we have responded," said Farrell. "It is the ultimate test to go there and win but it is where we want to be.

"Wales have been there and done it. They have been a tremendous side over the years. They have a lot of experience and won Grand Slams.

"But we don't mind a bit of adversity. It is where we have been good in our short time together.

"Experience has to start somewhere and we have to be challenging to win our first trophy.”
