The last time Scotland finished higher than fifth in the RBS 6 Nations was a third in 2006 and they got this year’s Championship off to a losing start against England at Twickenham.

However, since that 38-18 defeat, Scotland have won both of their games at Murrayfield – defeating Italy 34-10 and then grinding out a 12-8 win over Ireland.

Wales are the last team to visit Murrayfield during this year’s Championship with Scotland’s fifth a final fixture a trip to Paris to take on France at the Stade de France.

Scotland are level on four points with Wales in the RBS 6 Nations table and Laidlaw believes their desire to come to Murrayfield will have waned following their fight back.

“I think we get overlooked as a team [by pundits outside Scotland] but I think we’ve given people reason to overlook us,” said Laidlaw told the Scotsman.

“We’ve been a Jekyll and Hyde side. If we can change that psyche then everybody will come around to thinking that we’re not a walkover.

“Wales will fancy their chances on Saturday but I don’t think they’ll be looking forward to coming up here now.

“They’ll know that they’re coming to play a hard game of rugby and maybe in the past they haven’t felt like that.

“Maybe they felt before that it wouldn’t be too tough against us – and too often it hasn’t been.”
