Taylor seeking top four finish for Wales
18 February 2013, 3:24 pm
By Sportsbeat
Wales Women captain Rachel Taylor admits a top-four finish and World Cup qualification is the number one goal as her side look to open their RBS 6 Nations account.
Taylor and co. had high hopes of getting off to a winning start this season but they were downed late on at home to Ireland, who prevailed thanks to a Gillian Bourke try.

Ireland then went on to record a first ever victory over Ireland while Wales were comprehensively beaten 32-0 away in France.

Next up for Wales is a trip to Italy, who have also won both of their opening two matches against France and Scotland, with Taylor’s troops determined to get off the mark in search of a top four finish.

After travelling to Italy, Wales then visit Scotland before hosting an England team weakened by a number of absentees who are currently playing Sevens, but Taylor is expecting no favours in their competition finale.

“There’s the World Cup qualification which is obviously at the forefront of everyone’s mind,” said Taylor.

“I think England missing a few players has added a bit more spice to the competition but I don’t it will take too much away from them, they’ve got massive strength in depth.

“I think their team will be more fired up than they’ve ever been with people looking to cement a spot for the World Cup, and more committed to it and I’m not writing them off at all.

“We play them at home though and we’ve beaten them before at home, which I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about, but this year, more than ever, it will be a chance to see where we’re at against them.”
