And although losing to the reigning World Cup champions and a strong Springbok outfit is no disgrace, Robinson branded the loss to Tonga as ‘unacceptable’.
Robinson had been in charge of Scotland for three-and-a-half years and believes he leaves the squad in a better shape than what he found it in.
"It's been a privilege to be the head coach of Scotland and I'd like to thank the fans, players, coaches and staff for all their support,” said Robinson, who failed to lead Scotland to a single point at the 2012 RBS 6 Nations.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the players and the coaches.
"I believe I have left the team in a better position than when I took over and have great confidence in the players and the coaches for the future.
"I am very disappointed by our recent results but I have belief in the players to develop into a winning team."
