Injuries have forced Andy Robinson's hand as the Scotland boss names a brand new back three to face Italy in the RBS 6 Nations on Saturday.
The devastating match against Wales has ruled record points and appearance holder Chris Paterson out of the clash against the Azzurri along with Thom Evans and Rory Lamont.
Into the side come Stade Francais full-back Hugo Southwell and Ulster winger Simon Danielli while Sean Lamont moves from the wing to the centre.
Max Evans is recalled to renew his opening-round centre partnership with Graeme Morrison.
In the pack Allan Jacobsen is favoured ahead of Alasdair Dickinson for the loosehead berth while on the bench lock Nathan Hines and flanker Alasdair Strokosch are both back after injury.
The game will also see captain Chris Cusiter along with Southwell win their 50th caps.
