Paterson sets high targets

Scotland star Chris Paterson believes he can produce the best rugby of his career in his second stint at Edinburgh.
The 30-year-old returned to the capital this summer after a generally fruitless spell with English Premiership side Gloucester.

His first competitive outing for Edinburgh was a defeat in the Celtic League to European champions Munster at Murrayfield.

But Paterson kicked five penalties in the defeat for Andy Robinson’s side - and the utility back feels he can hit his best form in an environment he knows.

"I'm delighted to be home," the former Gala player said. "This is where I want to play, this is where I can get the best out of me.

"On the field and off the field Edinburgh rugby has changed massively in 12 months but I never really felt as if I left. It's a great place to be.

"It wasn't a huge disaster at Gloucester but the game time didn't suit me or Gloucester.

"That's all in the past and I'm looking forward to a fast start to the season."
