Scotland lock forward Jim Hamilton is set to miss the rest of the 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship after the injury that saw him stretchered from the field in the second-half of yesterday's loss to Ireland at Croke Park.
Hamilton (Leicester Tigers) was taken to Dublin’s Mater Hospital for X-rays and was discharged to the care of the Scotland medical team last night.
Today Hamilton was examined by both Scotland team doctor Sam Hewitt and surgeon Gordon Mackay. Dr Hewitt said: “The X-rays show that Jim has a badly sprained right ankle which is now immobilised in a boot. Jim will be subject to ongoing assessment but, at this stage, is unlikely to play any further part in this year’s championship.”
Three other Scotland forwards, Kelly Brown and Euan Murray, both with rib injuries, and Scott MacLeod (shoulder) will also report for further medical assessment at Murrayfield tomorrow.
