Royal visit for Croke Park
17 February 2008, 7:32 pm
By Catherine Goble
The first visit by a member of the Royal family to Croke Park is expected to happen next week for Ireland's rugby international against Scotland, for whom she is patron.

It has emerged that Princess Anne will be in the VIP section of the Hogan Stand for the RBS 6 Nations clash on Saturday in Dublin.

A visit by a member of the Royal family to such an important symbol of Irish nationalism as Croke Park could be seen as another major step in cementing the peace process.

The princess has visited Dublin several times - she was at Lansdowne Road in 2002 to watch the Scots take on Ireland.

The last visit to Ireland by a reigning British monarch was by George V in 1911.
