It was a brave move from the Edinburgh-born back, who has found himself competing against a plethora of attacking talent in the south of France.
France stars Yannick Jauzion, Vincent Clerc and Clement Poitrenaud fill the berths in Toulouse's outside backs and Di Rollo has found himself on the sidelines since he joined up with his new club after the World Cup.
His chance for action may well come in the next few weeks though, as those France backs depart for international duty in the RBS 6 Nations.
The 29-year-old is hoping to establish his credentials with the Toulouse management in their absence, leaving Nick de Luca, Graeme Morrison, Simon Webster and Andrew Henderson to battle it out for a place in Scotland's midfield.
But Di Rollo has every intention of making himself available for Test selection after this year's eagerly-awaited championship.
He said: “Making myself unavailable for Scotland for this year’s RBS 6 Nations was not a decision I took lightly. After a period of injury and transition from Scotland to France I felt it would be beneficial for my game to take some time to settle in to my new club.”
