Edwards, the Wasps head coach, is close to confirming a part-time role on the Wales management team after turning down the opportunity to take charge of the second-string England Saxons.

Wasps and the Welsh Rugby Union are currently in discussions over a release contract for Edwards, with the amount of time he spends in Wales one of the significant issues.

Three of Wales' RBS 6 Nations Championship fixtures clash with Guinness Premiership weekends.

In addition, the Wales squad are likely to remain in camp for much of the two blank weekends during the tournament, when Wasps also have league fixtures.

Andrew said: "I think it is quite difficult for somebody to do two jobs. That will be something Wasps and Wales have to resolve moving forward.

"Something will give in that situation, I'm sure. I don't see how you can be in two places at once."

Nevertheless, Edwards is one of the most successful English coaches in the game, having helped Wasps to a hat-trick of Premiership titles and two Heineken Cup triumphs, and the Rugby Football Union have been heavily criticised for allowing a man of his calibre slip out of their grasp.

"England will not be having Shaun Edwards involved. We did offer Shaun a Saxons role and during the various negotiations it became perfectly clear to us that wasn't where his heart lay," said Andrew.

"At the moment the senior coaching team is set as it is, so we are not looking to add anybody at this point."

Edwards turned down England's approach because, having achieved such success in club rugby, he is anxious to improve as a coach by dipping his toe in at Test level.
