Gatland waits on injured duo

Wales coach Warren Gatland faces an anxious wait after Dwayne Peel and Stephen Jones both suffered injury scares over New Year.

Scrum-half Peel, 26, was an ever present in last year’s RBS 6 Nations but was forced out of the Magners League clash between his Llanelli Scarlets side and Newport at half-time with a shoulder injury.

It is not yet known how severe his problem is but with the 2008 tournament opener against England now just a month away, Peel has little time to regain his fitness.

Fly-half Jones could not even take to the field yesterday due to a bruised thumb which is expected to keep him out for at least another week.
