Improved Ulster earn praise
15 December 2007, 12:29 pm
By Catherine Goble
Ulster's caretaker-coach Steve Williams, though disappointed at their ninth defeat in 12 matches and their exit from the Heineken Cup, was pleased with his side's improved effort in their 16-8 loss to Ospreys at Ravenhill.
The hosts played the last 20 minutes with 14 men after having both Ryan Caldwell and then Carlo Del Fava sin-binned one after the other.

"Last week we let ourselves down and took a step backwards but tonight we got at them and said we'd fight for every ball," said Williams, as speculation increased that Ulster are about to appoint a new coach as they bid to finish above Connacht in the Magners League to ensure Heineken Cup rugby for next season.

"We stuck at them tonight and got in their faces. We probably had a couple of chances we didn't finish off.

"When we were direct we looked effective and if we play like that we will win games."
