Andy Robinson
Duo deserve call-ups - Robinson
5 December 2007, 7:47 am
By Justin Goulding
Edinburgh head coach Andy Robinson believes Ross Rennie and Phil Godman's determination to improve earned them their call-ups to the Scotland training squad.
Flanker Rennie and stand-off Godman were among four players not involved in the World Cup preparations who were drafted in to the 44-man squad.

The pair, who have retained their places in the Edinburgh starting line-up for the Heineken Cup clash against Leinster on Friday, will join up with Frank Hadden’s squad for the one-day session on December 17.

Robinson said: “Phil has worked hard. I’ve been really pleased with what David Blair has been doing, so Phil has had to step up his game.

“He has not only had to work hard on the training pitch, but also in the gym and that has showed in the way he is performing.

“What I like about Ross is he is prepared to listen and work on his game.

“Ideas you suggest he thinks about and decides whether he can use them or not. I think that is a great strength to have.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with him and I think the team enjoy playing with him.

“He is quite a relaxed lad off the pitch, but suddenly he changes once he is on the pitch with the whole intensity that he plays with.

“That is great and that is the type of person who you are looking for in the team.

“He has done well, but there are always things he can improve on and he is continuing to take those steps.”
