Gavin Henson
Henson happy to be back
27 November 2007, 2:19 pm
By Catherine Goble
Gavin Henson was delighted to be back in the Wales team to face South Africa, hoping he and his young team-mates showed enough to impress new coach Warren Gatland.
The New Zealander takes up his job in charge of Wales this weekend and was an interested observer of the game from the other side of the world, with Henson being rated by most pundits as being one of the better Welsh players on the day after more than a year out of the side because of injuries and fitness.

The Ospreys centre told the Welsh Rugby Union’s website: “It’s always great to play for your country and great to be back. I know it has been a while since I played and it was good to get the ball in my hands quite a lot.

'Obviously we are disappointed with the result and conceding a lot of tries, we were not as organised as we would like because it was only a short week and we had our fair share of possession so we will have to look at why we only scored two tries, but there are a lot of positives as well.

“It is great to play in this team, it’s full of youngsters and nice to be involved with. I just hope we stick with this group of players now, but we will have to wait to see with the new coach because he will have his own ideas of the squad and how to play.

“He will have been quite impressed by the way we played, hopefully. They were clinical, they scored their tries from our mistakes which is disappointing - they were hard to break down. However we had a lot of possession and next time we will have to try to do a bit better with it."
