Robinson hails Jacobsen

Edinburgh head coach Andy Robinson has hailed prop Allan Jacobsen for his gutsy reaction to the cruel injury blow which ended his World Cup early.
Jacobsen will on Saturday play his first match since suffering a torn calf muscle against Portugal in Scotland’s tournament opener.

Alasdair Dickinson replaced Jacobsen in Frank Hadden’s squad once it emerged the injury would force him to miss the entire campaign.

But the 29-year-old is ready to return and Robinson believes Jacobsen - nicknamed ‘Chunk’ - will be desperate to make up for lost time when he lines up for the capital club against Munster in the Magners League this weekend.

Robinson said: “Chunk worked really hard to get himself tremendously fit for the World Cup before he picked that injury up.

“I’ve been told he is the best shape of his life which is tremendous and he hasn’t let that go.

“After the disappointment, it could have been easy for him to suddenly let that slip, but he has worked really hard.

“Craig Smith is unfortunately out with a sore calf, so to have someone of the calibre of Chunk to come in was really pleasing for the squad.”

Robinson keeps faith with fly-half David Blair, who again features in the same side as brother Mike after facing Connacht last week.

Roland Reid is unavailable for bench duty as his wedding takes place in South Africa.
