Dan Ward-Smith has been ruled out of England's World Cup squad because of injury.
The Bristol number eight suffered a serious knee injury while playing for his club against Northampton in the Guinness Premiership in January.
He has made an impressive recovery and was way ahead of schedule, joining England's training squad this summer.
However, England coach Brian Ashton revealed today he had spoken at length to Ward-Smith yesterday.
He said: 'Even though he's made fantastic progress from where he was, we've both decided he is not quite right yet to compete at this level and he will be leaving the squad this afternoon.'
