Scotland full-back Hugo Southwell is to miss the final game of the RBS 6 Nations Championship against France in Paris on Saturday because of a shoulder injury suffered in the 19-18 defeat to Ireland at Murrayfield.
Southwell suffered the injury to his left shoulder during the first half of the game against Ireland and will be out of action for up to three months following surgery.
Scotland team doctor James Robson explained: Hugo suffered a similar injury to that of Chris Cusiter during the autumn in that the shoulder joint was forced out then popped back in again.
He was operated on by orthopaedic surgeon Gordon McKay in Glasgow today (Sunday)and will now return to the care of the medical and rehab team at Edinburgh Rugby.
Scotland centre Marcus Di Rollo had a hand injury X-rayed on Saturday night but that revealed nothing more serious than severe bruising.
