Scotland plan to shock Ireland
9 March 2007, 3:17 pm
Scotland coach Frank Hadden insists his side can punch above their weight and beat Ireland at Murrayfield on Saturday - a fortnight after grabbing the rugby world's attention for all the wrong reasons.
The home team come into the match still reeling from their alarming 37-17 defeat to Italy, while their visitors will be looking to secure a third Triple Crown in four years after an emphatic victory over England at Croke Park in their last outing.

However, the history of the RBS 6 Nations Championship is littered with upsets and surprises, and Hadden believes this could be one such occasion when the form book cannot be relied upon.

You can never, ever, be sure what the outcome is going to be. The Six Nations is such an exciting competition because all the teams are so different from each other, and you are never quite sure what is going to happen when they come together, he said.

There is an uncertainty about the Six Nations which is part of the drama and the excitement.

Its like when two boxers come together. Some boxers find it difficult against opponents that you would ordinarily expect them to find it straightforward against.

So, we might be the underdogs against Ireland, but in a lot of the games we play we are the outsiders, and we definitely relish that role.

Dan Parks comes in for Phil Godman in the only change to the side which beat Italy.

The team selection was part vote of confidence, part a demand to put matters straight from Hadden. Certainly they could have had an easier next match.

We need to play extremely well against a very good Ireland side, and we are determined to do that, said Hadden.

Were very aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the Irish side, and we believe that we are able to build a game on the back of what they are able to bring to the party. We honestly think we can do something special.

We know it is going to be tough, and we will have to control the game as well as we possibly can but we are confident in our ability to do that.

A lot of Irish fans have got their hands on tickets for this chance to see their team win the Triple Crown but our squad is in a very determined mood, and are really looking forward to this opportunity to spoil their party.
