Recalled fly-half Dan Parks was blissfully unaware of the disastrous start Scotland had made to their last match against Italy until well after the first three tries in that embarrassing RBS 6 Nations defeat had been scored.
The 28-year-old Glasgow Warriors stand-off was the squads 23rd man 12 days ago, which meant he would be called up if a player dropped out of the side through injury before kick-off.
After warming up with the Scotland team that morning, it became apparent his services would not be required.
And, rather than endure the frustration of watching the match from the main stand at Murrayfield, Parks jumped in a taxi and departed the ground to watch the game with friends.
By the time he had reached his destination, Scotland were 21 points down and already chasing a lost cause.
I actually missed the first 10 minutes of that game and, when I got to the TV and saw the score, I was very shocked and surprised, said Parks, whose return to the starting XV for Saturdays clash with Ireland was confirmed on Wednesday.
It was a shame because it wasnt through a lack of trying. The boys were obviously trying things but, on three occasions, it didnt come off, which looked very bad in the end.
It was Phil Godmans ill-conceived chip kick which handed Italy the first of three quickfire tries during that astonishing opening salvo.
However, Parks has refused to heap any more misery on the man he has replaced in the Scotland team.
He said: Phil tried one thing and got charged down, but you cant blame him for the whole lot. I feel for him because Ive been in that situation myself.
Against Wales a few years ago, I threw a pass, which some might say was crazy, and it was intercepted and he ran the length of the field.
Thats not a pleasant feeling, but you will make mistakes and its a shame when tries result from it.
Focusing instead on his own satisfaction at regaining his place after being dropped in the aftermath of Scotlands defeat to England on the opening weekend of the RBS 6 Nations, Parks vowed to disprove the theory he has little to offer the team beyond a sound kicking game.
I am very happy to be back. It was very frustrating not to be picked after the England match, he said.
I couldnt really understand why, so I just had to take it but it was difficult, to be honest.
