Scotland head coach Frank Hadden has challenged Nathan Hines to demonstrate the qualities he knows all about after naming the Perpignan second-row forward in his team to face Italy on Saturday.
Hines, 30, has been promoted from the bench to the starting XV for Scotlands third RBS 6 Nations Championship match of the campaign.
Hadden is eager to see him in competitive action ahead of the World Cup at the end of the summer, even though Hines, who will be winning his 40th cap at the weekend, played for several seasons under Hadden at Edinburgh.
Australia-born Hines replaces Leicesters Jim Hamilton in the only change to the Scotland team which defeated Wales a week and a half ago. On the bench, Glasgows Andy Henderson replaces the injured Simon Webster.
Weve played 18 matches since Ive been coach but Nathan hasnt been involved in that many of these games - and the World Cup is not all that far off, said Hadden.
He is a top quality player, and I think we felt on balance that we needed to see him play a bigger part in the game this week than he did last week.
We discussed it for a long time, and it was very tempting indeed to stick with a winning side - and especially a winning pack which had performed so well against Wales - but I think on balance we needed to see more of Nathan.
We have been delighted with the way Jim Hamilton has stepped up, he has really impressed with his performances, and it is to his credit that he has made it so tough for Nathan to get back into the side [after missing the start of the campaign with an injured foot].
Weve not made many changes this week, but I can assure you that selection took just as long this time as it does when we lose.
Weve evaluated the performance of every player, weve looked at their strengths and weaknesses, at different combinations, and at the opposition.
Eventually we came to the conclusion that only one change is required this week.
Despite a strong showing for Edinburgh against Leinster on Friday night, Allister Hogg was unable to recapture his place in Scotlands starting XV.
Hogg was an ever-present for Scotland last season, but was forced to relinquish his starting spot in the autumn when he injured his shoulder and his knee in quick succession.
Hadden has stuck with Simon Taylor, Kelly Brown and Dave Callam in his back row.
The other area of interest during the build-up to todays team announcement was at fly-half, where Hadden opted to stick with Phil Godman ahead of Dan Parks.
