Brian O'Driscoll will this afternoon undergo a scan on the hamstring injury sustained in Ireland's 19-9 RBS 6 Nations victory over Wales.
ODriscoll limped off with five minutes of Sundays match remaining and Ireland head coach Eddie OSullivan confirmed his captain is a doubt for Sundays clash with France.
The Lions centre will arrive back in Dublin around midday and OSullivan hopes to have an update on his fitness later this afternoon.
He said: Its too early yet to say whether Brian will be available for France. Hell go for a scan when we get back.
Hes up and about but we wont know the extent of any damage until we get back.
Hes sore today and hes got a bruise on the back of his thigh and that complicates matters. It isnt known whether the bruising will affect the injury.
ODriscoll initially felt the injury earlier in the second half when supporting a break from Ronan OGara but continued after receiving treatment.
Irelands options were limited by the fact ODriscolls centre partner Gordon DArcy was playing with a groin problem and OSullivan denied his failure to replace the 28-year-old was a gamble.
He said: I think we managed the situation very well. We were aware of the fact Gordon had developed a groin injury, so both centres were carrying knocks.
But Brian was able to function, not at 100% but he was able to function.
We were watching the whole way through and when he felt it tightening up more, it was the right time to take him off.
I felt we managed the situation well - the worst case scenario would be to take him off early and then have Gordon come off.
The midfield would have been a mess so, in that context, we replaced him at the right time.
DArcy is expected to available for Sundays game, with Ireland announcing his team for the Croke Park opener on Wednesday.
