Northampton centre David Quinlan has been called into Ireland's RBS 6 Nations training squad after a weekend of Heineken Cup action took its toll.
Quinlan, together with Connacht's Danny Riordan and Leinster's Kieran Lewis were summoned by coach Eddie O'Sullivan following injuries sustained to Shane Horgan (knee), Robert Kearney (hamstring strain) and John Kelly (ribs).
A total of 15 players were unable to train in Dublin today, either due to mainly minor injuries or having featured in European combat on Sunday, which caused the cancellation of a planned session.
Injuries sidelined Peter Stringer, Gordon D'Arcy, Mick O'Driscoll, David Wallace and Barry Murphy, while a further group - including Simon Easterby, Neil Best and Tommy Bowe - all played yesterday.
Leinster wing Horgan has already been ruled out of Ireland's opening two Six Nations games after suffering a knee cartilage injury against Heineken Cup opponents Gloucester on Friday.
He has undergone surgery, and with an anticipated recovery period of four to six weeks, he could struggle to be fit for England's Croke Park visit on February 24.
Lock Malcolm O'Kelly, meanwhile, was due to be further assessed by Ireland's medical staff today after suffering a recurrence of knee trouble in the Gloucester game.
O'Sullivan said: 'The squad have picked up a couple of knocks at the weekend following the Heineken Cup games, and we also have to be mindful of players who have played yesterday.
'It was in the best interests of the players to prioritise rehabilitation and recovery today, to allow us to hit the ground running tomorrow.'
Ireland kick off their Six Nations campaign against Wales in Cardiff on Sunday week.
