Elvis Vermeulen is a doubt for France's RBS 6 Nations Championship opener against Italy on February 3 after injuring his shoulder on club duty this weekend.
The powerful number eight hurt his left shoulder during Clermont-Auvergne's 35-22 European Challenge Cup win over Worcester on Saturday.
Vermeulen faces around two weeks on the sidelines, putting his availability for Les Bleus game against the Azzurri in Rome in jeopardy.
'I dived on the ball on the ground, my arm tensed and my body went over it,' he said.
Vermeulen is expected to be a key part of France's back row for the Six Nations tournament.
France's 22-man squad for the Italy game will be announced on January 25.
