Horgan hat-trick sets standard
14 January 2007, 12:09 pm
Ireland winger Shane Horgan confirmed his fine form ahead of Ireland's RBS 6 Nations campaign with a second-half hat-trick against Edinburgh in the European Cup.
Horgan is one of several Ireland internationals playing well for Leinster, who brushed aside their Scottish opponents 49-10 to seal qualification for the quarter-finals, despite being without injured Ireland captain Brian ODriscoll.

ODriscoll missed the game with a calf injury he picked up during the week but it is not thought serious enough to prevent him playing the the Six Nations.

Horgan said: Im delighted to get amongst the tries, its a nice feeling being on the end of them.

Theres a lot of hard work that goes into the build-up some of it is off the cuff stuff but weve had that attacking philosophy for a number of years now and its great when the moves comes off.

Weve threats all over the back line and even without a player of the calibre of Brian (ODriscoll), who injured his calf during the week, we can still run up the tries.

Kieran Lewis deputised for Brian well. Denis (Hickie) was involved in the build-up for a few of the tries and is playing well, added the Drogheda man.

I thought Bernard Jackman was a stand-out man for us tonight, he puts in a lot of unseen work, and Gordon DArcy is in great form he almost won our Magners League game against the Ospreys single-handedly last week.

Horgan will hope to be in Irelands line-up as they begin their Six Nations campaign against Wales at the Millennium Stadium on February 4.
