Caucau: I will return to Agen
2 September 2006, 4:28 pm
Elusive Fijian Rupeni Caucaunibuca has claimed a bout of typhoid has ruled him out of pre-season training with Agen.
The former Blues winger was banned by his country for missing a game last season after a call-up.

He also missed training sessions with the Blues and North Harbour while in New Zealand.

Reports in the Midi Olympique newspaper stated Caucau had told his team-mates not to expect him back in 2006/07.

However, he has said he wants to return after his release from the Labasa Hospital on the island of Vanua Levu.

I have been told by my doctors not to travel yet and will do so once I get the clearance from the doctors,'' Caucau told the Fiji Times.

''I have been suffering from typhoid and was admitted to the hospital. I am still having checks.

''I had never wanted to leave Agen and had spoke to my agent about the matter. My agent and I held discussion about the situation. I'll go back to playing once I'm ready. I will go back to Agen.''

But former Fiji Rugby Union offical Frank Boivert believes the player has cried wolf once too often,

He said: ''He has painted a bad picture of Fijian players. I am sure with this kind of negative attitude from him, clubs would be wary of recruiting players from Fiji.

''And I think that is unfair because there are players that show more consideration and commitment and deserving to go abroad. But what Caucau has done, he has actually spoiled these players' chances - a bad apple.''
