Scottish rugby mourns Monro

Former Scottish Rugby Union president Hector Monro has died at the age of 83.

Monro was also the Conservative MP for Dumfries from 1964 to 1997 when he retired and was appointed Minister for Sport in the opening years of Margaret Thatchers first term as Prime Minister.

He served as a manager and team selector on the Scottish tour of Australia in 1970 before being named as SRU president six years later.

Lord Monro of Langholm and Westerkirk was knighted in 1981 and received his peerage in 1997.
