Warriors return to Hughenden
11 August 2006, 6:26 pm
Glasgow Warriors will return to Hughenden for the new season.
The Scottish Rugby Union had launched an extensive search for a new home, which included the Falkirk Stadium, Burnbrae and Anniesland after playing home games at Firhill - home of Partick Thistle - for the second half of last season.

The Warriors quit Hughenden after a disagreement over ground usage with Hillhead/Jordanhill RFC, who own the ground, but that issue has now been resolved.

Scottish Rugby Union chief executive Gordon McKie said: I am delighted we have been able to overcome the previous long-running difficulties between Scottish Rugby and the club and thus put the relationship on a new basis which we can now build upon for the Warriors and their supporters.

We are also determined to listen carefully to our supporters and the clear message was that Hughenden is their preferred venue for The Warriors.

So we hope todays decision will prove popular with the rugby community in the city.
With this news now confirmed, we can finalise our arrangements to launch our season tickets during the course of next week.

Glasgow will make their competitive return to Hughenden on September 1 when they play host to Newport Gwent Dragons in the Magners League.

Head coach Sean Lineen said: The players and coaches have been concentrating on our pre-season training which is going well.

We have had every faith that the matter of where we play this season would be settled in time for the first game.

We know Hughenden is a popular ground for our supporters and the players really enjoy the atmosphere there during games.

Hughenden has had a reputation in the past of being akin to a fortress for us so, with the supporters help, we hope that reputation will return and boost us all for the new season.
