Italy starlet Michele Sepe has vowed to grasp his next opportunity with the national team with both hands.
The 19-year-old Capitolina winger made his Azzurri debut during the June tour of Japan and Fiji after graduating from the Under-21 team.
He revealed his eight-minute cameo in the 52-6 victory over Japan made him so nervous, he was unable to perform.
But his first start, a week later against Fiji, was a different story despite Italy's 29-18 defeat.
Sepe admits the step-up from youth to senior level is huge.
The difference is considerable, he said. I had much experience in the Azzurri youth teams, but the impact at international level with the senior team is impressive and more difficult.
For example, against Japan, I started from the bench and waited too long before I was called on to the field for the last eight minutes.
Honestly, it was so emotional to play in front 15,000 Japanese fans. I did little in that game.
I believe my emotions stopped me making any impact. Even if it was just a friendly match, it was really difficult to play.
I remember I didn't make any movements or runs. It was hard, but I'm ready now.
In fact, the second game [against Fiji] I played from the start and I did well, playing without fear, and my coach gave the compliments after the game.
Indeed, as coach Pierre Berbizier looks ahead to the 2007 RBS 6 Nations and World Cup, a spot on the wing could well be up for grabs, something Sepe is fully aware of.
This season, there are lots of chances to prove to my coach Pierre Berbizier I am the player he needs, Pepe said.
I really hope to gain a place in the squad because the Azzurri shirt has an irresistible glamour.
But to do that, I need to improve a lot and be ready if a chance comes to me.
