Berbizier names 38-man squad
18 July 2006, 4:23 pm
Italy coach Pierre Berbizier has named a 38-man squad to take part in training sessions at Aosta from July 30 to August 4.
Berbizier wants to check on more players as well ahead of the RBS 6 Nations tournament and the World Cup in France.

Berbizier said: For the season 2006/07 our target is to have a squad of 60 athletes, who can provide the backbone to important events like the next RBS 6 nations and World Cup in France.

The doors of the national senior team are open to everybody. In my point of view from now on everybody gets a chance.

We are going into a very busy season, starting with the qualification for the World Cup, which is not a certainty in my point of view.

To qualify for France 2007 there is lots of work to do, Portugal (who Italy meet on October 7 at L'Aquila in the first leg) is a growing squad.

Berbizier is also looking forward to tough games against top non-European teams later this year.

In November we are going to play three tough Test matches against Australia, Argentina and Canada, said Berbizier.

And to be able to be at our best in these games, all the players most give everything the have, and produce a top quality game.

Otherwise, playing against squad like Australia who last Saturday overwhelmed South Africa 49-0, will be very hard for us.

Italian squad: Matias Aguero (Arix Viadana), Robert Barbieri (Overmach Parma), Matteo Barbini (Benetton Treviso), Mauro Bergamasco (Stade Francais), Mirco Bergamasco (Stade Francais), Valerio Bernabo' (Ghial Calvisano), Marco Bortolami (Gloucester), David Bortolussi (Montpellier), Pablo Canavosio (Castres), Martin Castrogiovanni (Leicester Tigers), David Dal Maso (Ghial Calvisano) Denis Dallan (Stade Francais), Benjamin De Jager (Amatori Catania), Carlo Del Fava (Bourgoin), Santiago Dellape' (Biarritz Olympique), Ezio Galon (Overmach Parma), Leonardo Ghiraldini (Ghial Calvisano), Paul Griffen (Ghial Calvisano), Andrea Lo Cicero (Conad LAquila), Andrea Marcato (Benetton Treviso), Andrea Masi (Biarritz Olympique), Carlos Nieto (Gloucester), Ludovico Nitoglia (Ghial Calvisano), Fabio Ongaro (Saracens), Silvio Orlando (Benetton Treviso), Sergio Parisse (Stade Francais), Enrico Patrizio (Carrera Petrarca Padova), Gert Peens (Conad LAquila), Aaron Persico (Ghial Calvisano), Salvatore Perugini (Stade Toulousain), Ramiro Pez (Bayonne), Simon Picone (Benetton Treviso), Michele Rizzo (Carrera Petrarca Padova), Michele Sepe (UR Capitolina), Josh Sole (Arix Viadana), Fabio Staibano (Overmach Parma), Marco Stanojevic (Bristol Rugby), Alessandro Zanni (Ghial Calvisano).
