The average age of his 28-man squad is only 24 and - with seasoned internationals like Gareth Thomas, Brent Cockbain, Gavin Henson, Ryan Jones, Tom Shanklin, Dwayne Peel, Kevin Morgan and Chris Horsman left behind - it will be a tough tour.

Wales meet Argentina at Puerto Madryn in the Welsh-speaking region of Patagonia on June 11 followed by a clash in Buenos Aires six days later.

And Jenkins, who took over as Wales national coach from caretaker Scott Johnson last month, admitted: When you look at the type of side we are taking there is no doubt we are exposing a young group of players.

It is really encouraging from my point of view, but equally we would like to win two Test matches.

Our priority will be to pick as strong a side as we can and actually do that.

Plans for the tour were put into some doubt when it emerged that 59 of Argentinas top players would go on strike following a contract dispute.

But, even though that strike is now likely to be averted, Jenkins said it had not affected the squads preparations.

We have gone on business as usual, he insisted.

We are pretty positive on a daily basis, from the information we have received, that everything is going to be fine.

And we are preparing as normal for the tour and the two games.

We want to play the strongest possible Argentina team and that is what we are expecting to do.

Jenkins added: We have looked at Argentina over their last five or six games and their selection does change.

Their habits dont change much. They are pretty predictable in the way they actually play. We have anticipated their style of play and their strengths and weaknesses.

We are in the process of identifying a game plan to play against them.

One of the stats that was interesting was that there were 48 line-outs and only two were played off the top. All the rest were driven.

They have got a forward mentality, but they score a lot of points as a team and score a lot of tries as a back line off that forward plan.

Wales will have to leave on Thursday without five players  Luke Charteris, Nathan Brew, Ian Gough, Hal Luscombe and Rhys Thomas  who are involved in the Newport-Gwent Dragons European Cup qualification play-off with Italian club Parma.

We go on Thursday and we will have to meet up with them on Saturday, explained Jenkins.

All players will be considered for both Test matches.
