Italy head coach Pierre Berbizier has named a 60-man squad ahead of the summer tour of Japan and Fiji.
The party does not include injured trio Maurizio Zaffiri, Gonzalo Canale and Kaine Robertson, who have all been reassured they will be given chances to regain their places in time for next years RBS 6 Nations Championship.
Azzurri team manager Carlo Checchinato said: Sadly we decided not to call up the players recovering from injury like Zaffiri, Canale and Robertson, but Im confident this group of players will be ready to face big tournaments like the World Cup and 6 Nations Championship.
Italy had arguably their most impressive RBS 6 Nations this year, giving a good account of themselves in all their matches.
Checchinato believes the summer tour, which includes Tests against Japan on June 11 and Fiji six days later, will see them take another step forward.
The idea to call all these players for these two matches is to plan the work in view of the 2007 World Cup and to measure the strength of Italian rugby with respect to all the good things that happened to us in the last 6 Nations.
