Servat to make long-awaited return
26 April 2006, 6:58 pm
France and Toulouse hooker William Servat is expected to return to action next week after a seven-month absence.
The 28-year-old, who has 16 caps, missed the autumn Tests and the RBS 6 Nations Championship after undergoing surgery on a hernia.

I have never been left by my team Toulouse, they supported me throughout that difficult period, he said.

''Since I resumed training, I have been fine. Thanks to a very specific programme, I have regained my reflexes.

I have put on weight however, so I must work on that.

Servat, who is considered one of the best hookers in the world, is set to play for Toulouse in the final few games of the regular season.

He may also join up with France when they take on Romania in Bucharest on June 17 before travelling to South Africa on June 24 for their summer Test matches.

Meanwhile, Thomas Castaignede has signed a one-year contract extension with Saracens.

The 31-year-old utility back will remain at the Vicarage Road club until the end of the 2006/2007 campaign.

Castaignede, who joined Saracens from Castres in 2000, has set his sights on helping the club qualify for next seasons European Cup.

Saracens host Leicester on Friday in the first of two remaining fixtures left in which to claim a European Cup spot through their position in the English Premiership table.

It was no secret that I wanted to stay with Saracens and Im pleased to say that I have signed a new contract with the club, said France international Castaignede.

Saracens is my club and Ive been here such a long time, through ups and downs.

I think another reason to stay for another season is the way the club is looking forward.

A big part of my signing was that when Eddie Jones arrived, he brought a new direction to the club and things look good for us.

The impact that he has had cannot be underestimated and with Alan Gaffney coming in, things are going to keep on improving with the quality of the coaches and players who are going to be here next season.

New director of rugby Gaffney is delighted Castaignede has committed his future to the club.

He said: Thomas is one of the truly great players in world rugby. Hes been playing well for us this season which has also earned him a recall to the French side.

Hes an important part of the squad and were delighted he has extended his contract.
