France's victory in this year's RBS 6 Nations championship was pleasing but I was rather disappointed by our overall play.
We have not played such average rugby for a long time. Our only memorable match was the one against England, although our arch rivals did not play well.
One of the good things for France was that despite starting the tournament badly, we managed to bounce back. Against Wales we struggled to take control but we were lucky because despite not playing well, we remained focused.
The tournament left me with mixed feelings. Is it because the domestic championships are too long, or too hard? Can this explain why the teams looked so tired? It's difficult to say.
On the other hand it was a good result for France especially with the World Cup just over a year away.
I was also pleased to see the Italians raise their level again this year, even though their best result was a draw, and Scotland impressed me as well.
France will have a lot of work to do for the World Cup. At the moment, France would probably win it if there were only the Northern Hemisphere teams involved but against the Southern Hemisphere sides, we are going to have to raise our game and work extremely hard to match them.
It's not fair to say that France were as mediocre as some had suggested, this is a little bit too strong, but there is some truth in it. I thought the French displays were weak but at least we managed to make the best of them.
