Scotland international Gavin Kerr has left Leeds Tykes to sign a three-year deal with Border Reivers for next season.
The 28-year-old prop began his career with Berwick before joining Jed-Forest. He has since been at Wirral club Caldy before moving to Leeds.
Now the 29-times capped forward will return to Scotland next season.
Kerr said: ''I have never played Celtic League rugby before and I am really looking forward to the new challenge.
''The Reivers have a great coaching set-up. Steve Bates has brought a lot to the Borders and I know George Graham and Alan Tait very well, having been involved with them during Scotland duty.
''My wife and I are expecting a baby and I grew up in Berwick, so my family ties are in the Borders - that is another reason why a move to the Reivers is good for me at this stage in my career.''
Borders head coach Bates insists the signing underlines the ambition of the professional team.
He said: ''Gavin is a major signing for us, having made a great contribution to the success of Scotland this season.
''It shows that we have serious intentions of continuing to be a competitive side next season and beyond.
''It says a lot for the Reivers that a player of Gavin's stature and experience is coming to the Borders.
''We are very much looking forward to working with Gavin, and Gavin working with us, to encourage young talent in the Borders.''
