The thing that disappointed me about Scotland's performance was that they just didn't seem up for it. I felt there was a hangover effect from the win over England, and while that was perhaps understandable, it didn't make it any less disappointing.

The Scottish team lacked shape and the players didn't look as if they had any real understanding of the gameplan.

The line-out was a disaster again, and although Paul O'Connell and Malcolm O'Kelly deserve a lot of credit for the way they played, there were two or three overthrows by Dougie Hall which suggested to me that he had got the yips.

Scotland looked at their most dangerous early on when they used Andy Henderson on a short, flat ball but for some reason they only used this ploy two or three times, preferring instead to persist with the rolling maul.

On a more positive note, Jason White led by example as usual and some of his tackling really was phenomenal. He was ably supported by Simon Taylor who I also thought had a good game.

But the bottom line was that Scotland never really looked like scoring a try, and that is a worry.

Looking ahead to next week I've got to admit I'm a bit worried.

It's going to be a real test of Scotland's character to see if they can raise themselves mentally for what is effectively a dead game.

Italy will have targeted the game as one they think they can win, and there's no doubt they'll be up for it.
