Calcutta Cup hero Ross Ford has been ruled out of Scotland's surprise RBS 6 Nations Championship title charge after being injured in Celtic League action.
The young Borders hooker - who played in the closing stages of the historic triumph over world champions England at Murrayfield - was stretchered off after just two minutes of his side's 20-8 win over Glasgow at Firhill on Friday night.
Ford suffered serious knee ligament damage as he landed awkwardly in a challenge and is likely to be sidelined until next season.
Ironically, the man he was directly opposing - Scott Lawson - will take his place in Frank Hadden's national squad for next weekend's encounter with Ireland in Dublin and against Italy in Rome seven days later.
Ford's plight took the shine off the Reivers victory, which makes them firm favourites to pip the hosts for Scotland's second automatic slot in next season's European Cup behind championship contenders Edinburgh.
