I think in some ways we have taken a step back with this defeat in France.
We did well in the first half but we expended a lot of energy in defending and did not do as well in the lineout as I had hoped.
We did not get the quality of ball we needed and we were a lot worse in the second half.
Our defence was good but we had to defend so much we became physically tired and ended up making some pathetic mistakes.
When you give the ball away unnecessarily to players like Christophe Dominici and Thomas Castaignede like we did for two of the tries you will pay - small things can make a huge difference at this level.
I dont think the scoreline was a fair reflection on the difference between the teams but in the last 20 minutes we allowed them too much freedom and they scored three tries in quick succession.
The positive is that the team defended well and kept possession well in the first half.
We still need to improve in lineouts and be a little more tactically aware.
At the moment the target must be to try and win a game. We have taken some steps forward in this championship before the France game but now we need to get a victory.
Scotland have surprised everyone again which is good for the tournament and I still believe Italy can do well and go for a win maybe against Wales.
I believe once again Gonzalo Canale, Sergio Parisse, Mauro and Mirco Bergamasco have proved themselves and are developing a lot and improving the standard of our team.
The front row also played well and we must not forget the importance of players like Salvatore Perugini who have also done very well for us during this tournament.
