Week Three
13 February 2006, 7:05 am
I am very pleased with the way we started the tournament and I am very proud of the guys.
We have lots of spirit and a good attitude and we are playing without fear - thats something thats really important and we are looking them in the eye and showing our confidence.

Unfortunately we also made a few mistakes even if we are well aware that this was another level and we can not afford to make mistakes like that against a team like England.

We are not as consistent in attack as we should be because we had a few problems with the line-outs.

Our defence was really good but when we attack we need to change the pace and the second ball must be a bit quicker.

I am worried about the consistency of the squad and although we had another good performance this week there are things to look at and small aspects to work at.

Our attitude is good, our play is good and the guys are trying to prove themselves - that they are worthy of the stage.

I am pleased but we still need a win - anything is still possible as there are still three games to go and against more likely teams.

In Paris, Ireland scored 31 points and this tournament has shown there are lots of surprises and no guarantees.

Thats fantastic because every game is an open one.

Italy must now build on their confidence and their strengths. The defence and attitude was outstanding and so was the spirit of never giving up.

We defended our try line so well against the world champions. Our defence was very good and I thought we scored a marvellous try although I dont want to talk about the last try we conceded because it was a silly mistake.

The attitude and the spirit was good but we must now turn that into a winning spirit. It was a brilliant try by Mirco Bergamasco after a great run by Gonzalo Canale and now we can look to the future with hope.
