Match Preview for Scotland vs France
2 February 2006, 9:41 am
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden could not have asked for a tougher introduction to the RBS 6 Nations Championship.
France visit Murrayfield on Sunday aiming to continue a run of 10 years without defeat in the Scottish capital.

But, while Les Bleus are looking to start a title-winning campaign, just two wins will represent a significant improvement for the new Scotland boss.

The Scots have claimed just two triumphs in the last three tournaments - both against Italy at Murrayfield.

However, a new era beckons for Scotland with Hadden at the helm after the tenure of Matt Williams where only three wins were garnered from 17 Tests.

Scotland captain Jason White will also be hoping to celebrate his 50th cap with a flying start against the French.

But much will also be expected from players such as number eight Simon Taylor in the tournament this season.

Scotland almost stunned France in the RBS 6 Nations opener in Paris last year when an Ally Hogg try was disallowed before a Damien Traille touchdown helped claim a 16-9 triumph.

But France have their eye on an even bigger prize this year.

Les Bleus are aiming to regain the RBS 6 Nations crown from Wales.

Bernard Laportes team steamrollered their way to Grand Slams in 2002 and 2004 before allowing the title to slip last year in the home defeat by the Welsh.

Team manager Jo Maso and captain Fabien Pelous have both played down the inevitable favourites tag this year.

But, with only two games being played away from the Stade de France, Les Bleus have a favourable draw this year.
