Canada 5-29 England
20 June 2005, 7:30 am
England booked their place in the Churchill Cup final with victory over outclassed Canada on Sunday.
Paul Sackey, Sam Vesty, Tom Voyce, James Simpson-Daniel and Pat Sanderson touched down to set-up a tournament decider against Argentina - who edged past the USA Eagles 34-30 earlier in the day - but coach Joe Lydon has been given plenty to ponder.

Partly as a result of the Canadians gutsy performance, England never really stamped their authority on the match and failed to generate the momentum they wanted.

Lydons starting line-up contained five capped internationals, with two players - Andy Goode and Chris Jones - appearing in this years RBS 6 Nations, but they found it hard work against the feisty hosts.

Number eight Aaron Carpenter ran in their solitary try but it was richly deserved and Ric Suggitts largely amateur side could have crossed on two other occasions had they shown a little more composure at crucial times.

England were reduced to 13 men at one point of the second half with the disappointing Goode and Louis Deacon both yellow carded for fighting.

They looked set for a simple second half after leading 12-0 at the interval, but the Canuks expected collapse in the last quarter never materialised as they erased memories of last weekends 60-3 drubbing by Wales.
