Scotland interim-head coach Frank Hadden has named Edinburgh stand-off Phil Godman in his 24-man squad to face Romania after Gordon Ross was ruled out with a hand injury.
The uncapped 23-year-old only returned north from Newcastle a year ago but he is in line to make the step-up to Test rugby in the Dinamo Stadium, Bucharest next Sunday.
Ross looked set for a run in the number 10 jersey after impressing in the midweek win over the Barbarians but he broke a bone in his hand and is out for three weeks.
But Edinburgh coach Hadden said: ''We are delighted to give Phil the opportunity. He is a very talented young man and has taken his chances well to play for Edinburgh Rugby this season. He is coming up fast in the rankings.''
Also drafted in to augment those on duty at Pittodrie on Tuesday, when Scotland defeated the Barbarians 38-7, are Sam Pinder, the uncapped scrum-half who has played 42 games for Glasgow Rugby, and Borders full-back or wing Stuart Moffat.
Scrum-half Mike Blair had a scan following the injury he sustained to his right knee on Tuesday.
He said: ''There's bit of bruising and some fluid on my knee but I have been assured there is nothing of a major nature.''
Hadden is hopeful Blair will be fit to fly with the squad to Bucharest.
