Bath centre Olly Barkley has been ruled out of England's Churchill Cup tournament in Canada next month due to a shoulder injury.
The 23-year-old will stay at home to continue his recovery and is replaced in the squad by Andrew Higgins, his uncapped Bath team-mate.
The absence of Barkley, a regular in England's starting line-up during the RBS 6 Nations, was revealed today by Joe Lydon, who is in charge in Canada while head coach Andy Robinson is in New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions.
Olly will continue his rehab to make sure that he is ready for pre-season training and we look forward to having him back with us next season, said Lydon.
A decision will be taken on the fitness of Leeds centre Chris Bell, who has also been troubled by a shoulder problem, before the England squad fly out on June 9.
But Lydon added: We are confident that Chris will be fit to go on the tour.
