Dwyer rings changes
25 May 2005, 6:14 pm
England will face a Barbarians team wholly different to the side beaten by Scotland when they take on the all-star select XV at Twickenham this Saturday.
Barbarians coach Bob Dwyer has opted to omit all the players involved in Tuesday nights 38-7 defeat by the Scots at Pittodrie, bringing in some of the biggest names in world rugby for the match against the world champions, whose side will be depleted by Lions call-ups.

Former All Blacks fly-half Carlos Spencer comes in, so too South African Brent Russell and Australias Wendell Sailor, while an Englishman - Simon Shaw - will face the English.

Shaw forms part of a strong pack which also features Springbok Selborne Boome and French number eight Sebastien Chabal.

The manner of the defeat by Scotland was disconcerting for Dwyer, but he feels the revamped Barbarians team will give a better account of themselves at Twickenham.

Obviously we were very disappointed to lose in Scotland but we have tremendous strength in depth in this squad and we are determined to put the record straight against England, said Dwyer.

We face a tough challenge but these players in the Baa-Baas team are themselves quality individuals.

Our task is to gel as a team and put on a performance worthy of the great traditions of the Barbarians at Twickenham. We are determined to do so.

Barbarians team to face England at Twickenham on Saturday, May 28:

Brent Russell (South Africa); Wendell Sailor (Australia), Thomas Castaignede (France), Trevor Halstead (South Africa), Bruce Reihana (New Zealand); Carlos Spencer (New Zealand), Mark Robinson (New Zealand); Tom Smith (Scotland), Mark Regan (England), Cobus Visagie (South Africa), Simon Shaw (England), Selborne Boome (South Africa), Corne Krige (South Africa), Sebastien Chabal (France), Johnny O'Connor (Ireland).
