Former Scotland international Tom Smith maintains he will not be following the example set by Gregor Townsend and offering to come out of retirement for interim coach Frank Hadden.
The Northampton Saints loosehead prop announced his decision to hang up his Scotland boots earlier this month and is not planning a U-turn.
He told the Sunday Herald: I thought about retiring for a long time, went through all the issues and options, and just came to the conclusion that this was the right time for me.
Its different for Gregor, because it wasnt his decision to leave in the first place, so maybe he feels there is unfinished business there.
I had reached a point where it was going to be difficult to juggle club and country commitments, and I also felt it was better to let other players get a run and establish themselves before the next World Cup comes along.
I had a chat with Frank Hadden recently, not about coming back but about what had gone on in the past few months, and I felt a lot better about the future of Scottish rugby after that.
